Des Moines, Washington Relocation

Des Moines is a city in King County located in the state of Washington. During the 2000 census, the population of Des Moines was estimated at nearly 30,000 residents. Located on the east shore of the Puget Sound and halfway between the major cities of Seattle and Tacoma, Des Moines is a very popular destination for relocation to the state of Washington. Originally, Des Moines had said to been settled by the Duwamish and Muckleshoot Indian tribes that had come to the area for fishing and clamming. It was not until 1889, the area was platted into lots for sale by the Des Moines City Improvement Company and the lumber mill industry brought new residents in daily for employment.

At this time, the primary source of transporation to the area of Des Moines was by water. The first road that was developed was the "Brick Highway" and was completed in May 1916.The city's most recognized asset is its 838-berth small boat marina that has been seen on the shoreline since 1970. In 1980, a 670 foot concrete and aluminum fishing pier was built at the north end of the marina. Though Des Moines is still very much a growing area, it is a very desirable place to keep in mind in your search for relocation in the state of Washington.
